President Steven Scully and Registrar Russ Haynes attend DAR Paso Robles meeting

Russ Haynes and I had the pleasure in attending the El Paso de Robles DAR Annual Tea and awards meeting on February 10, 2019.  The meeting was held at the Paso Robles Elks Lodge. The event opened with the local Boy Scout Troop 60 leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and color guard.  The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of awards to two young people who were 1^st place finishers in the State of California American History essay contest. 

Anne Edgecombe, Regent for the El Paso de Robles NSDAR invited members from the Central Coast Chapter SAR.  Anne has expressed a desire to work with the Central Coast NSSAR on future events.  Russ and I were greeted warmly and a lot of information was exchanged between the two groups.  The El Paso de Robles DAR generously donated $100.00 to our Chapter.  They have our sincere thanks and gratitude.

While work remains to be done in this area, the relationship between these two organizations has been established.  Both DAR/SAR can only benefit from a continued commitment to work together.  We look forward to working with together to make a stronger Chapter.

Central Coast Chapter Minutes for January 19, 2019

The meeting for the Sons of the American Revolution was held January 19, 2019, at 1:00 PM, at IHOP Restaurant, Madonna Road, San Luis Obispo.

Meeting to Order: 1:08 PM

Pledges of Allegiance & SAR

Attendance: 12 attendees including 3 guests

First Guest Speaker: Anne Edgecombe, Regent for the DAR El Robles Chapter in Paso Robles and DAR for 50 years. Anne is also the Lineage Research Co-Chair and has attained genie level by taking all of the courses offered by the DAR. Anne is also involved in a children’s joint program with the SAR which meets at the Elk’s Lodge and other joint training. Anne shared that genealogy is her passion and she believes fervently that everyone should know from whence they came. Anne also enjoys challenges, so if anyone has hit a brick wall she is willing to help. Anne presentation was warmly received and she was presented a Certificate and cannon.

Secretary’s Report: None

Treasurer’s Report: Current account balance sits at $3,935.73.

Motion (Harris) That reimbursement of $43.50 to Pres. Scully for various expenditures and $19.00 to Bill Harris for postage. Seconded (Mummert). Carried.

Bill Crewe and Nate Maas are heavily involved in Scouting and it’s believed local scholarships are to be offered. Bill Crewe will investigate.

New Business: Election of Chapter Officers for 2019. Motion (Scully) Incumbent slate of officers to continue for 2019. Seconded (Haynes). Carried.

Guest Speaker #2: John Peschong currently SLO Co. Supervisor for District #1. John also served in the Reagan Administration. John has been a member of SAR for 35 years in the Washington DC chapter. There are 5 supervisors on the board and they oversee over 2800 County employees and their departments. They make decisions on county public health policy i.e. needle exchange programs which are credited with lowering instances of HIV and Hep C.

Affordable housing continues to be an issue countywide. Work force housing is particularly a big problem. Tax revenues are on the decline and as a result county employment is frozen. The decommissioning of Diablo Canyon continues to cause some concern particularly with the loss of good jobs and tax revenue. Fire protection and the Sheriff’s office continue to receive the most emphasis. Cannibis legalization also presenting some unique challenges. Water availability and issues with the Army Corps of Engineers continue to bother north county. To be continued. Following Q&A, Supervisor Peschong was also awarded a cannon.
