                   Jordan Cunningham

The Central Coast is where I grew up, where I work to earn a living, and where my wife and I raise our four children.
Whenever we get together with our friends and neighbors, enjoy the natural beauty of our region, or volunteer in the community, we are reminded that there is no better place to call home.
My passion for our community coupled with my experience as a deputy district attorney and taxpayer advocate, have motivated my decision to run for the State Assembly.
I have prosecuted criminals in the courtroom, making our community a safer place to live. I have fought against higher taxes and unnecessary fees, protecting our hard-working families and taxpayers.
And now, with your support, I will fight for our region in the Assembly, providing commonsense leadership and a voice for each and every one of our residents.
Sincerely,
Jordan Cunningham

We inducted four new members including;  James Shea,  John Shahine, Elia Shahine, and Trevor Platt.  Welcome.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.  The Treasurer reported $2,5328.10, and requested that if you’ve not done so, pay your dues!

Called to order at 1:11 PM.. Attendance 9.  Invocation by Gary Cooper.

Dr. Jim Shea has an application pending and attended as a guest.

Our one true secretary, Chris is working thru some medical issues.

Dues are due.  We have $2,193.49 in the bank.

Veterans will receive free meals at Applebees on Veterans Day, which is of course November 11.

Our program consisted of a discussion about who each of us wanted for Presidential candidates and who we thought would win.  If you'd like to know who we favored and predicted to win, come to the next meeting.  Our predictions are quite as good as any February Groundhog!

And, by the way, our discussions are enlightening and entertaining.  Another reason to get here one Saturday a month.

Central Coast Chapter Minutes for June 20, 2015

Central Coast Chapter Minutes for June 20, 2015

Meeting to Order: 1:11 PM
Attendance: 9 members
Pledges of Allegiance & SAR
Secretary’s Report: May minutes read. Motion to accept the minutes as read (Tissue), seconded (E. Rader). Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report unavailable.
Sunshine Report: Jerry Evans has passed away. Gary Cooper and Roger Koeninger were ill.
Motion to make September dark (no meeting) and to resume in October (Tissue), seconded (E. Reader). Motion carried.
Speaker: John Siler was again kind enough to step in and he chose to speak on the presidential election of 1968. In terms of the trust factor, JFK was the last president to have the trust of the majority of Americans.
In 1968, Lyndon Johnson pledged not to run and threw the Democratic nomination into chaos. Hubert Humphrey was the likely favorite but he couldn’t distance himself from LBJ and the Viet Nam war. Anti-war candidates like Eugene McCarthy  and Robert Kennedy emerged. Senator McCarthy won the Oregon primary but the momentum shifted to Kennedy who won in Nebraska and California. RFK was assassinated following his CA victory. George Wallace mounted the strongest 3rd party candidacy since 1912.
In the end, GOP candidate Richard Nixon outdistanced Humphrey in a tight contest. Nixon carried CA, OH and IL, each by less than 3% and had Humphrey carried just one of them it might have enabled George Wallace’s electors to prevent a Nixon victory in the Electoral College. The rest is History.

Thomas Jefferson, his life and teachings

Thomas
Jefferson

His Portrait is on the Two $2.00
Dollar Bill.

This is amazing.
There are two parts.
Be sure to read
the 2nd part (in
RED ).

Thomas Jefferson
was a very remarkable man who started
learning very
early in life and never stopped.

At 5, began
studying under his cousin's tutor.

At 9, studied
Latin, Greek and French.

At 14, studied
classical literature and additional languages.

At 16, entered
the College of William and Mary.
Also could write in Greek with one hand
while writing the same in Latin with the other.

At 19, studied
Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.

At 23, started
his own law practice.

At 25, was
elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.

At 31, wrote the
widely circulated "Summary View of the Rights of British America" And
retired from his law practice.

At 32, was a
delegate to the Second Continental Congress.

At 33, wrote the
Declaration of Independence.

At 33, took
three years to revise Virginia's legal code and wrote a Public Education
bill and a statute for Religious Freedom.

At 36, was
elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick
Henry.

At 40, served in
Congress for two years.

At 41, was the
American minister to France and
negotiated commercial treaties with
European nations
along with Ben
Franklin and John Adams..

At 46, served as
the first Secretary of State
under George
Washington.

At 53, served as
Vice President and was elected
president of the American Philosophical
Society.

At 55, drafted
the Kentucky Resolutions and
became the active head of Republican
Party.

At 57, was
elected the third president of the
United
States.

At 60, obtained
the Louisiana Purchase doubling
the nation's
size.

At 61, was
elected to a second term as President.

At 65, retired
to Monticello ..

At 80, helped
President Monroe shape the
Monroe
Doctrine.

At 81, almost
single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first
president.

At 83, died on
the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along
with John Adams.

Thomas Jefferson
knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government.
He understood
actual history, the nature of God, His laws and the nature
of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand
today.

Jefferson really
knew his stuff.

A voice from the
past to lead us in the future:

John F. Kennedy
held a dinner in the White House for a group of the brightest minds
in the nation at that time. He made this statement: "This is perhaps
the assembly of
the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in
the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined
alone."

"When we
get piled upon one another in large cities, as in
Europe,
we shall
become as corrupt as Europe ."
 --
Thomas
Jefferson

"The
democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those
who are
willing to work and give to those who would not."

--
Thomas
Jefferson

"It is
incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A
principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the
world."

--
Thomas
Jefferson

"I
predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government
from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of
them."
 --
Thomas
Jefferson

"My
reading of history convinces me that most bad government
results
from too much government."
 --
Thomas
Jefferson

"No free
man shall ever be debarred the use of
arms."
 --
Thomas
Jefferson

"The
strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
is,
as a
last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in
government."

--
Thomas
Jefferson

"The
tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to
time
with the
blood of patriots and tyrants."
 --
Thomas
Jefferson

"To
compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he
disbelieves
and
abhors is sinful and tyrannical."

--
Thomas
Jefferson

Thomas
Jefferson said in 1802:

"I
believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than
standing armies.

If the
American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their
currency,
first by
inflation, then by deflation,
the
banks and corporations that will grow up around
the banks
will
deprive the people of all property -
until
their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers
conquered."

The Honor Flight organization is a nonprofit that raises money and uses it to transport military veterans to Washington DC to view the war memorials, Arlington Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial, Fort McHenry, Annapolis and other Washington DC sites. Honor Flights is presently serving WWII vets since they are beginning to disappear. Over 16 million served in WWII and less than 2% received a celebratory homecoming at war’s end.
Honor Flights believe these flights provide closure for some and universal appreciation for all who served. Korean vets are next in line since their numbers are also dwindling. The terminally ill receive preference.
Greg emphasized that all money raised goes toward the veteran’s costs which run about $1500.00 per vet. Volunteers pay their own way.
The Central Coast Honor Flight group has been in operation since 2014. Our own Gordon Willey has been on an Honor Flight trip and Bill Siler is scheduled for one in May.
Greg McGill can be reached at honorflightccc@gmail.com if you would like to have someone added to the list or make a donation. The presentation was warmly received and Greg was presented with a cannon.
