Ben has derived his family genealogy from sources like the Willis Family Bible, the family shotgun with carved names and Willis relations. Ben’s grandfather served in WWI and WWII. The latter service was as commanding officer of a POW camp at Brownsville, Texas.
Ben recently visited Mississippi where his grandfather resided and met cousins at a family reunion. Ben learned of distant relations Randy Willis, author of Twice a Slave and Joseph Willis who served under Col. Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox”. Ben’s revolutionary ancestor is John Willis, a delegate at the constitutional convention. Ben aspires to be a minister after his retirement from CMC. Ben’s presentation was warmly received.
