Treasurer’s Report: Account balance presently $3118.29.

Guest Speaker: John Lindsey, Chief Meteorologist for PG&E at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant. John completed the Naval Aviation Meteorology program at Pensacola, FL then spent 24 years in the Navy. John also has a weekly column in the SLO Tribune.

John explained how southerly Pacific temperatures and currents can deliver an El Nino i.e. warmer than normal temperatures weak 0.5-0.9, moderate 1.0-1.4 degrees Celsius and strong 1.5-1.9 degrees Celsius. El Nino is typically a wetter year but in 2015 with all indicators trending toward the strongest El Nino on record, rainfall was far below normal. La Nina results from cooler Pacific temperatures and is typically drier in terms of rainfall. All indications are this year will be neither which is referred as an El Nada.

John also discussed micro climates, the abnormal high pressure that stayed over the western U.S. for five years causing draught, weather models and patterns. John included that Diablo Cyn would be operated at a high level until 2025 and prior to its decommissioning.

John’s presentation was warmly received and he was presented a certificate and cannon in appreciation.

New Business: Bill Harris is our newest member and he was presented his certificate. Also, June is our last meeting until October.

Old Business: None
