Obituary for Jerry Evans

Jerry Dale Evans

Jerry Dale Evans Jerry Dale Evans was born in July 1940 in Mathiston, Miss., and passed away suddenly at home in Grover Beach on May 30, 2015. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had lived in Grover Beach since 1962 serving on the Grover City Volunteer Fire Department as a fireman and fire chief. He retired from Cal-Trans after 26 years. He was a long time member of the CA State Employee Association (CSEA) having served as a job steward, regional director and as past president and vice president of Chapter 10. He was currently serving as District B Director of the CA State Retirees. He belonged to The Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 1956. Jerry Dale was an avid Lionel train collector; loyal fan of the AGHS football team for 40 years. His favorite times were spent with family and friends. Jerry Dale is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 54 years; daughters: Shelly (Karl) Langwell, Alanna (Peter) Pence, and Alisa (Michael) Baker. Grandchildren: Kory and Sean Langwell, and Matthew, Meghan, Michael and Melanie Pence; brother, Ron Evans; sisters and brother-in-law: Marion (Rick) Wheeler, Allan (Patty) Marshall, and Kay Evans. He is also survived by numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.T. Evans and Thelma Kinney and brother Thomas Evans. There will be a Celebration of Jerry's Life held on Sunday, June 7, at 2:00pm at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church 301 Trinity Ave., Arroyo Grande, Calif. Central Coast Chapter Minutes for May 16, 2015

              Meeting to Order: 1:00 PM

              Attendance: 7 Members & 1 Guest

              Invocation by G. Cooper

              Pledges of Allegiance & SAR

              Secretary’s Report: The minutes for 4/18/15 were read.

              Treasurer’s Report: Current account balance is $2,193.49. Motion (Tissue) to accept both reports, seconded (Wiley). Motion carried.

              Guest Speaker: No speaker was able to be scheduled. A general discussion ensued on a multitude of topics including the death penalty, water collection techniques, historical items et cetera.

Central Coast Chapter Minutes for April 18, 2015

Meeting to Order: 1:00 PM

Attendance:  10 Members, 1 DAR & 2 Guests

Pledges of Allegiance & SAR

Secretary’s Report: The Minutes for March21 were read.

Treasurer’s Report: a/o  3/23/15 the account balance is $2,207.49. Motion (Haynes) to accept both reports as read, Seconded (Tissue). Carried.

Dr. Jim Shea, a former anesthesiologist and Army Captain is a new member prospect and was in attendance.

Speaker: Loreli Brandt, Branch Manager and Head Librarian at the Cayucos and she possesses a Masters Degree in Library and Informational Sciences from San Jose State University. Loreli is only recently assigned to the Cayucos branch but she emphasized their 100’ patio and the new furniture obtained via a grant. Cayucos has several computers and devices to access online books and periodicals and Loreli encouraged all to visit www.slolibrary.org to see the databases available free with your library card.

Specifically, Loreli mentioned Global Road Warrior for travelers and Ancestry.com for genealogists, both of which can be accessed through the library.

On 05/2/15, Friends of the Library at 310 B Street, Cayucos will have 10 local authors will appear for book signings. SLO libraries are part of the Black Gold system which provides a courier service as far south as Ventura and county libraries also participate in the Inter-Library Loan program which has the nominal fee of $3.00 per book. Loreli’s presentation was much appreciated and she was presented with a cannon and certificate.
